Dustin Whipple of Whipple Superchargers in Fresno, Calif., had a simple plan when he ordered a custom go-fast boat from his brother-in- law Mike Fiore, the owner and founder of Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats, two years ago. He wanted to build “something fun.” Now, we all have our versions of fun and as anyone who knows him can attest, Whipple takes his fun more seriously than most. So it was a safe bet that—once completed—his SV 43 V-bottom would be nothing short of outrageous and yes, a whole lot of fun

I’m kind of fond of fun, too, which is why three days before Christmas, I found myself riding on a remote lake outside Fresno with Whipple and Fiore in Whipple’s exquisite stepped-hull, epoxy- and carbon-fiber-built 43-footer. We didn’t go particularly fast while I was board, at least if 130 mph isn’t particularly fast, which was fine with me.
